The closest I ever came to Hawaii was being scheduled to stop there for a layover on a trip to the Philippines, but had to settle for flying over it at several miles up when there was nobody on the plane who needed to stop in Hawaii. I would have counted that on my list of states for sure. I still think this is the most costly, and likely difficult, state to visit. That and the huge ocean that prevents driving to it.
At least someone in our family has visited Hawaii. My mom and dad went there to celebrate one of their later anniversaries, and I think the trip was paid for by others. I don't remember being in on that or being asked to be in on that, but I was surprised they went. That wasn't really their thing. The attended a local luau and I don't remember that they were that thrilled about that event. I just remember them saying it cost too much.

We do have friends from our time at Lincoln who moved to Hawaii and have been there some years now. They remind us from time to time that we are welcome to come visit anytime. When our ship comes in and we can purchase tickets, we'll be there!
