#5. California CA (Been There, Sort of)

As I mentioned in my introduction page, my time with California was limited to time spent in the airport on a trip to the Philippines. Pretty much all flights from the Midwest (Chicago was where I flew out from) will stop on the West Coast before heading to the Far East. On our trip out we were supposed to have a layover in Hawaii but nobody needed to be dropped off so, ironically, I didn't have the chance to add that hardest state to my list. But I still count California!

Nighttime at LAX

As I mentioned in the overview of trying to visit all 50 states, there are those who don't feel a layover at an airport is enough to qualify as visiting a state. As I also mentioned, I don't particularly agree with that line of reasoning. I flew a perfectly valid flight on a perfectly valid airplane to the perfectly valid city of Los Angeles which hosts the perfectly valid Los Angeles International Airport. My son and I spent overnight right there in the airport that is right in California. We had to exit the plane with our luggage and hang around for over eight hours. If that's not a visit I don't know what is. After that short "visit" we were on our way to our next destination.

Not very restful

Anyways, I see my total of states visited at 41 while there are some who would only acknowledge 40 of them. Whatever. On my list, the state of California has been visited.
